About

Brave Like Gabe is on a mission to advance rare cancer research and empower cancer survivors through physical activity. Collaborating with world-renowned cancer institutes, Brave Like Gabe has been a driving force in funding life-saving research in rare cancers. It does this by engaging more than 18,000 supporters through running events, an online store, an active social media presence, and year-round fundraising efforts.

Challenge

Brave Like Gabe faced the challenge of understanding its supporter base more deeply. Despite its success in building a nationwide community of supporters, its small and mighty team of staff and board members didn’t have the time and resources to understand what motivated people to engage. Additionally, to expand its fundraising efforts it knew it needed to be focused on the people most likely to increase their giving and engagement. The questions remained: who were these people and how could they best engage them?

Solution

Engaging the expertise of Connecting Points Consulting, Brave Like Gabe embarked on a journey to decode its supporter data. Through a statistical analysis, patterns emerged regarding how the organization's strongest supporters initially connected and moved towards deeper engagement. This analytical dive confirmed some things Brave Like Gabe suspected. And it also uncovered unexpected insights too, for example the significant role Brave Like Gabe's online store played as a key entry point for supporters. Leveraging these findings, a custom predictive model was developed to identify individuals most likely to deepen their involvement.

Outcome

Energized by these findings, Brave Like Gabe is innovating its engagement strategies. The staff and board feel confident that they have the capacity and clarity to connect with the right people in the right ways.
